Project Summary

Inventors are the lifeblood of innovation and Andy Wells is one of the best! As a successful inventor and entrepreneur, he decided to focus his attention on the healthcare and childcare markets, in particular, solving problems that arose during feeding. In the case of healthcare, Andy identified a problem surrounding the feeding of patients who suffer mobility problems and need a carers assistance feeding oneself. A system was developed whereby food solids can be dispensed by the patient giving them the dignity and control they desire.

This principle, was then developed into a child feeder where the device could be used to help wean children from milk on to solid foods in a much cleaner and controlled way.

3Di’s role was to transform Andy’s ideas into fully working plastic products that were both attractive and able to be manufactured.

Through a series of CAD concept designs, the technical performance and aesthetics of the Sucup range were developed to make them suitable and desirable by their target markets.

Initially, we produced 3D printed models for function tests and later produced rapid prototypes in order to fully test the products.

To help launch, we assisted Andy in finding a supplier for the tooling, and managed the manufacture of his product here in the UK. The product won double gold at the Invention of the year awards 2012!
