Project Summary

Slick Systems are a truly innovative stadium seating company, looking to use the latest that technology can offer in terms of manufacturing to give them a cost, quality and style advantage. The challenge was to create a new, all plastic stadium seat using gas injection moulding. This process allows the moulder to inject gas during the moulding cycle to form voids which are channelled around the part to give tremendous rigidity in one plastic forming.


Stage one was to produce a range of concept CAD renderings while developing the internal spring mechanism. This was a challenge as all parts had to be specified using engineering plastics to ensure long life and durability.

Once the design was chosen, CNC wooden ergonomic form patterns were made for trials and once approved, the detail CAD design progressed.

Working closely with the gas injection experts, we were able to detail the sections needed to give us the rigidity required. Our FEA tests were invaluable to maximize the form and technical design.
