The speculum project offered a solution to some major issues within third world countries in the identification of cervical cancer. Procedures on patients had to be effective with one visit, ensure singular usage and offer design advantages over the competition while being made at a disposable cost price.
The purpose of the project was to take the product concept to investment stage, seeking funds for clinical trials and development tooling.
Working with the Gynecology department at Demontfort University, we were instructed in the use of the existing equipment and the objectives of the project. From there, we developed key protectable IP features that resulted in a patent application.
The key areas we worked in were technical plastic design for the mechanisms, electronics, disposability and disassembly after use and hygiene control.
