Janet Hunt

student class We receive many requests from students hoping for graduate or work experience placements and looking to spend some significant product development time here with the team at 3di and unfortunately we are not always able to accommodate. However Michael Lannie has recently been invited to share his expertise with a small group of Diploma students at a local Arts Specialist School. The students are working to a project brief leading to a product. Michael hopes to help to inspire them with his vast and valuable knowledge and also offer advice on industrial design and further education!

We hope to track the student’s progress with their design project …look out for the next stage of development.

Marathon Ben and Tony What are fit lot we are here at 3di in aid of our nominated charities

Firstly after months of arduous training, nurse maid’s knee and pure grit and determination - Ben, our designer, completed his first London Marathon back in April 2009, and raised over £1000? for Save The Rhino charity.

Next, not to be out done by her male colleagues, Janet completed her 4th London Walk the Walk Moonwalk and power walked 13 miles in her decorated bra in aid of Breast Cancer, with her teenage twin daughters. Unfortunately there are no images available to download for this event! Janet is waiting to hear if she has places for The 2010 Moonwalk. See www.walkthewalk.org

Finally, Michael ran 8 miles with his team of four in The Edinburgh Marathon, completing 26 miles between them, in memory of his mother for The Myeloma Society, again they raised a very worthy £1200. He is continuing his training on his treadmill!

23/10/09 - Did you know that 3di has a new rapid prototype 3D Printer?

Z450 3D printer At 3di, we are very excited about our latest investment and now wonder how we ever managed without our full colour Z450 3D printer!

We can now offer in-house rapid prototyping and modeling facilities, allowing our clients the opportunity to see and feel their product first hand in order to make any changes to the design or show their product to potential investors, whilst more importantly, giving our customers the reassurance in determining an accurate development process.

3D printing uses standard inkjet printing technology to create parts layer by layer by depositing a liquid binder onto thin layers of powder. After each pass from the print head a new layer of powder is distributed. This process continues until all of the part’s cross sections have been printed. The bed is then de-powdered and the model removed for infiltration, hardening and finishing. Most models are left ‘organic’ (hardened but not sprayed) but in certain circumstances models can be professionally sprayed and hand finished helping them to look and feel like finished parts.

Please download a copy of our Z450 3D printer leaflet, contact us for more details or arrange a visit to our office to see the results for yourself!
